I want to ask you a question. It's a good one. It can snap you out of your rut and set you onto better things. And though I know you've heard it before, it needs repeating:
If you keep doing exactly what you're doing now, will you ever get what you want?
We fool ourselves. We say, "Self, I really want (fill in the blank), but it's going to have to wait. Someday, yes, someday, I'll make it happen."
The truth is that it won't happen, not if we continue following the same routine.
But that's not fun to think about, so we rationalize and deceive ourselves and ultimately lock our dreams away in a pretty little basket called someday.
The question above is a wake-up call. It's been my wake-up call many times. I've wanted things to improve, but I got lazy and let routine take over. When I read that question, though, when I really think about it, I get motivated.
I realize that doing the same thing every day is not going to cut it. I can't follow the same path and expect new and better results. So I make a change because I realize there is no other choice.
I want you to ask yourself the question: If you don't change what you're doing today, will you ever get what you want? Are your actions taking you in the right direction?
Don't fool yourself. If you want to get healthy but your routine revolves around burgers as big as your head and a daily helping of doughnuts, you're not going to win.
You have to do something different to get something different.
Ask the question and let the answer light a fire under your pants and get you moving in a better direction.
